Why Traditional Back Pain Treatments Often Fail—and What Works

I know it seems impossible to get chronic lower back pain relief. There’s treatment methods out there, but which actually work? I spent years going through the same cycle of temporary relief, going to one practitioner after the other hoping they could solve my problem. Each physical therapist, chiropractor, or acupuncturist would help me see a bit of improvement, but the pain always came back. It was a never ending loop. I started to realize that my back pain wasn’t just something someone could fix for me. I had to take matters into my own hands to solve my back pain, and I’ll help you, too. 

 

A Shift in Perspective: More Than Just Back Pain

One of my lowest moments in my life came when I was lying on my bedroom floor, completely defeated - a 24-year old surfer who couldn’t surf because of my back pain. My entire body was out of balance; my neck, jaw, and bite weren’t aligning properly. My body wasn’t working together the way that it should, a massive turning point for me. 

 

I read an article prior to this about how muscles can work synergistically in the body to create your posture and stabilize your body. Muscles can become imbalanced which causes your posture to shift, which leads to back pain. Light bulb! My body was out of balance. The article also talked about how your posture is a reflection of your life, like your thoughts, beliefs, food we eat, and even the way that we move. 

 

It was then that I knew my back pain wasn’t just a single issue - it was because of a larger imbalance in my body and my life. It told me how my body was functioning as a whole, outside of my back pain, and that I couldn’t just wait for someone else to fix my pain.

 

Taking Control: You Are the Director of Your Health

I had to take the lead in fixing my back pain. I couldn’t rely on someone else anymore, I had to start learning about what was happening in my body and how to relieve my back pain and discomfort. I had, at that moment, given myself power, and knew that I could find the answers within me to understand myself, body, and how I could balance my muscles to fix my health and my posture. It wasn’t a quick fix, but it did allow me to make consistent steps to correct my issues and move towards a healthier, less painful lifestyle.  



When you’re in control of your health, you no longer give in to the pain. You know that you possess the tools and knowledge within yourself to handle the discomfort. When things go wrong, you no longer feel helpless. Instead, you know exactly the steps you need to take to get back on track. 

 

The Turning Point: You Are the Solution

As you know from before, I thought of my back pain as some mystery that hadn’t been solved yet, hoping that a doctor could provide me with a solution. They couldn’t. But that did allow me to take matters into my own hands, and that’s when I started to see real progress towards lasting back pain relief.
